A Note About Our Tea Shirts

Recently someone commented that they thought our Tea Shirts were 20 quid scams bought for 2 quid, I'd like to put the record straight:

Worldwide, cotton farming uses only 3% of total farmland yet consumes 25% of the chemical pesticides and fertilizers used globally.

In America 53 million pounds of toxic pesticides are applied to cotton fields each year.

In India as much as 50% of pesticides are used on as little as 5% of the total agricultural land.

Poisoning related to agricultural pesticides each year causes 20,000 deaths and 3 million chronic health problems.

In 2001 120 countries agreed to ban 3 of the most harmful, dirty dozen, chemicals used heavily in cotton production.

This hasn't happened yet.

Organic cotton is grown in 15 countries but still only represents 0.1% of global cotton production.
We at the Tea Appreciation Society believe that what you put on the outside of your body is as important as what goes into your body, your skin won’t absorb any toxic pesticides when you wear Tea Appreciation Society apparel. Made from 100% organic cotton, it’s better for the environment and the end result is a really soft, comfortable and hardwearing garment.

Our organic clothing is also climate neutral, which means the industrial greenhouse gas emissions used in producing them have been reduced to pre-industrial levels, this is achieved through low-impact (low emission) organic agriculture and carbon neutral industrial manufacturing, this is possible by substituting energy use from fossil fuel powered power stations (grey electricity) with clean renewable 'green' energy from wind turbines and solar power.

The wind turbines generate renewable (green) electricity for the industrial manufacturing, while solar power is used to pre-heat the water used in the dyeing and finishing processes.

Our clothing is climate neutral, not carbon neutral, because we hope to reduce our carbon emissions per garment by up to 80-85%, compared to emissions generated by the manufacture of conventional cotton garments. A reduction of 80-85% is in balance with the environment.

Surf Screen

Thanks to Christian Bailey who presented the film screening of The Present on Saturday night at St. Merryn Cornwall.

We wholeheartedly support Christian's sentiment that we are a community of wave riders irrespective of the type of craft we ride.

It was also a great atmosphere watching a film on the big screen with friends and a few beers.

Proceeds from the night were donated to Freedom Surf, an organisation that enables clients with disabilities to surf.

The SurfScreen Facebook page link is below - add as a friend to keep up to date on future events.

We Love Artisans

The TAS support local artisans

Andy's been making teapots since 1983.

Each teapot is designed, made and decorated by him alone, in his Lavender Cottage studio North Cornwall - No factory, no Far East production.

Some of the teapots are made in very short production runs of 15 only.

Each teapot is personally signed, dated and boxed.

Our friend and featured TAS artisan Andy Titcomb is now on Etsy, click on the link to go to his Etsy store.

Free Tea Anyone?

At last Thursdays talk given in the Howies' Bristol shop

entitled 'the Appreciation of Tea and the Art of Life', co-founder Shayne House urged everyone present to reintroduce tea as a daily ritual, to take it away from being hurriedly slurped down in front of a computer screen, and ideally to take it away from being brewed from a tea bag.

We've nothing against teabags, they serve a purpose. But it is loose leaf tea in its enormous variety that we are encouraging you to drink.

Tea - little leaves, gently and slowly unfurling like sails in the hot water.

It’s easier than you may think to enjoy loose leaf tea; there are plenty of options available outside of the conventional teapot method of brewing. Check out our mug infuser for instance @ http://shop.teaappreciationsociety.org/ (we have some new funky infusers coming in the next couple of weeks too, we'll let you know when they're in stock)

We ask you to take the time to slow down and master the art of living,

Take time to drink loose leaf tea, take time to enjoy it.

It will enrich friendships - discuss each other’s hopes and dreams, but BE in the present, this is Teaism. Like the Wabi Sabi way, we can find value in the uncomplicated.

Embrace the way of tea.
Tea is a way of life.

So, along with our tea merchant we're offering 100 people the chance to enjoy 10 cups of different loose leaf tea, for free.

That's right you heard it, free, nada, zilch, for nothing. (UK only).

All we ask is that you rank each tea we send you with a rank of between 1 to 10, depending on how much you like it, and send back the results, that's it.

If you'd like to be involved with this little project and receive 10 free cups of loose leaf tea to try, please email your name and address to mail@teaappreciationsociety.org

Your details will NOT be used for marketing purposes.

The teas will be sent to the 1st 100 volunteers to email us. It is strictly a 1st come 1st served basis.

Full details of how to score/rank your teas will be enclosed with your free tea.

Thank you.
